For those seeking a diversion from the Suwanee Creek Greenway and perhaps a bit more solitude (Suwanee Creek is indeed becoming very popular), the Ivy Creek Greenway in Buford offers a nice alternative. Starting at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center (Plunketts Rd. between Satellite Blvd. and Buford Highway), the 2.7 mile paved and dirt trail run east and then north along Ivy Creek past the Mall of Georgia. The Ivy Creek Greenway is relatively flat and scenic, particularly on the eastern part of the trail as it runs through Georgia Wildlife Federal Land. Runners can also combine about a mile of trail running at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center.
If any drawback to the Ivy Greenway exist, it is the constant buzzing automobile noise from Interstate 85, Buford Highway, and nearby Mall of Georgia Blvd. The greenway also travels under overpasses of these major roads. All told, however, the Ivy Creek Greenway is a nice run close to home. It also has a promising future. Extensions are planned to connect the Ivy Creek Greenway with the Suwanee Creek Greenway at the west end and Bogan Park on the east end. That will truly be a treat when it happens.
